In today’s increasingly transparent society and
almost instantaneous electronic delivery of
information, dealing with the media is more
challenging than ever. But dealing with the media
does not need to be an adversarial relationship. The
key is understanding and respecting the job that
reporters, business writers and news commentators
must do and, on your end, providing information
truthfully, succinctly and on a timely basis.
Avoidance tactics can be problematic and could
potentially create an atmosphere of mistrust,
mismanagement and even anger. Well cultivated media
relations, on the other hand, including timely and
well written releases in the spirit of cooperation
will not only enhance your company and/or personal
reputation but also give you a benefit-of-the-doubt
situational edge with media representatives and even
serve as a valuable and free marketing tool for your
business or enterprise.
